Who May Qualify?
- 1 to 8 years old — In the prime of health and physical maturity.
- At least 50 lb (22.7 kg) — Ensures a safe, comfortable blood draw volume.
- Females who have never been pregnant — Reduces the risk of donor antibodies that could complicate recipient transfusions.
- Healthy & not on medication other than preventatives — Free of daily prescription drugs beyond routine flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
- Calm & able to lie on one side for 5–10 minutes — A relaxed temperament ensures the donation experience remains stress-free and gentle.
- Up to date on vaccines & preventatives — Current on core rabies, DHPP, and continuous parasite preventatives.
- Never received a transfusion — Ensures clear, universal-quality donor blood products.
- No history of cancer, splenectomy, or blood-borne infection — Protects the donor pet’s well-being and the immune-compromised recipient.
- Owner commitment — Availability for scheduled donations and willingness to notify our medical staff of any health changes.
